Uwharrie Capital Corp Board Member Honored

Capital Corp and Cabarrus
Bank & Trust board member Doug Stafford was one of
three distinguished North Carolinians honored at the Governor’s
Conference on Tourism, for his significant and continuing
contributions to the growth and success of North Carolina’s
tourism industry.
Stafford is a partner of Griffin Stafford,
LLC, where he oversees the development and acquisition of
hotels and other real estate. In addition, he has also served
as vice president of the Buncombe County Convention and Visitors
Bureau and executive director of the Buncombe County Tourism
Development Authority where he developed Asheville’s
first marketing and advertising program.
As executive vice
president of Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Stafford oversaw
the planning, coordination, and promotion of all spectator
events, including three major NASCAR Nextel Cup races; and,
as president and CEO of the Charlotte Convention and Visitors
Bureau, he championed the need for a new convention and exposition
center and was instrumental in securing construction financing.
Past recipients of the Winner’s Circle
Awards include H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler, president
and general manager of Lowe’s Motor Speedway; Jerry
Richardson, owner of the Carolina Panthers; and Hugh Morton,
owner of Grandfather Mountain.
